Superintendent's Update - March 30, 2024

Greetings North Marion Families and Community,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful end to spring break!  A nice welcome back after a first week of spring that brought a little bit of weather for everyone!

Along with the launch of spring and the beginning of our third trimester, March has brought us an opportunity to enjoy beautiful music performances, wonderful celebrations and appreciations for our classified staff, a great launch to our spring sports and activities, thoughtful family information nights, successful robotics, Battle of the Books, and FFA competitions, and many more of the day to day experiences that could only happen with your support and collaboration with our amazing staff.  Thank you for being a “community engaged and unified” in support of our children.”

We are excited to continue our planning and preparation to launch Early Literacy and Summer Learning programs and activities supported by grants provided by the Oregon Department of Education.  We also look forward to moving forward with new curriculum and materials to support science, English language development programs, and primary school mathematics. We are grateful for the thoughtful work of our staff and for your support in these efforts as we “learn together to cultivate lifelong growth.”

We are also thankful for the local community support, as well as the support from students, and staff who have worked together to support facility improvements over the past few weeks.  An outstanding team effort is bringing the vision of soccer fields on the corner of Grim Road and Boones Ferry Road to reality, and we know that our entire community, as well as our guests, will appreciate and benefit from the improvements to the driveways and paths around our sports facilities. Thank you to all who have supported these efforts!

I also want to share with you that at our March meeting of the North Marion School Board I announced that I will retire as superintendent of the North Marion School District.  It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve this community and its schools.  I am incredibly proud of the work we have done together over the past three years as we navigated from the pandemic to a safe and robust return to school.  I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to work with friends and colleagues in North Marion. The Board has begun the search process for the next superintendent.  Please look for opportunities to be involved!

Please enjoy these final days of March and our return to school next week (no April fools!). Thanks again for all you do for children in North Marion.

With Spirit,

Bill
