Intermediate School Family-

The 2023-24 school year is almost here!  We have been planning and preparing for the return of students and are so excited for the memories we will build together this year. Our planning has been in service of supporting all students and centered on the District Strategic Plan and Vision and Mission statements which guide our work on every level:

• Mission Statement: North Marion, learning together to cultivate lifelong growth.
• Vision Statement: Communities engaged and unified in providing all students equitable access to their chosen path.

First Day and Wednesday Early Release:

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 6, 2023.  

The big change this year is that we no longer have Wednesday Late Starts.  If you have been in the district you will know that we have had a Two-Hour Late Start on Wednesdays for many years.  A major shift this year is that we will no longer have the late-start on Wednesdays.  We will have an early dismissal this year on Wednesday.

For elementary students this means that on Wednesdays, students will start at 8:40 and finish at 2:45 pm.  See the schedule below

Registering

Please complete the NMIS 2023-2024 Student Online Registration for your student to update their contact information. See the enclosed letter for instructions.  Please call us if you need assistance with this important process.

Volunteering

Volunteers will be allowed this year and there are no Covid related considerations.  This means there is not proof of vaccination or exception requirements like there were last year.  To volunteer you will need:

• An updated background check renewed within the last two years.  
• All volunteer paperwork submitted to the office no later than Friday, October 27.  We are unable to approve anyone for volunteering after this date unless there is a hard-ship or move-in.  This helps us know who is in the pool of volunteers and avoid any last minute requests that we are unable to accommodate.

Bus Information:

If students are arriving at school by bus please see the enclosed route schedule.  If you need to contact First Student directly their number is (503) 462-1993

Back To School Night:

Our Back To School Night is on Wednesday, August 30 from 5pm to 6:30pm.  The calendar has Thursday, August  31 listed; however, this is not accurate. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to come and meet with their teacher, staff and tour the school.  This year buildings are open and you will be able to visit the teacher in their classroom.  Community partners and fun opportunities will be outside.  In regards to school supplies for classrooms, we ask that students bring them on the first day of school.  We’ll have popsicles and meet the principal opportunities available in the cafeteria and look forward to meeting you.  

Car Lane Drop off/Pick Up:

If families and students are using the Pick Up/ Drop Off line, please enter the Intermediate School parking lot, follow signage and staff directions to help the flow of traffic.  

We ask that:

• Cars pull all the way forward to the signs near the HS cafeteria.
• Do not pass cars to pull in front - rather pull forward as the car in front of you does so.
• Students are to enter the cars on the right side of the vehicle - near the sidewalk only.  
• Parents are not to exit the car unless there is a need that has been discussed with the administration in advance.  If you want to meet your student, please park in the parking lot and walk across the sidewalk to greet your student.
• Only use the handicap spaces if you are permitted and display the permit at all times.
• Treat each other and staff with respect and kindness at all times.

Site Council:

Schools are required to have a Site Council.  This is a group of teachers, parents, and administrators who work together to develop, review and evaluate school improvement plans.  If you are interested in this, please contact me.  We very much need a couple of parents willing to be on the council.  Council meetings are one time per month from 4 to 5pm with a day to be determined.  

Student/Family Handbook:

Please take a few minutes to go through the Student/Family Handbook.  We have hard copies available in the front office upon request or you can visit the Intermediate School Website at https://www.nmarion.k12.or.us/intermediate-school.  Click on the IS Parents & Students tab. 

School Theme:

There is so much research around having a good mindset.  A good mindset can be defined as:

• Believing I belong in a community and so do others.
• Believing that I can succeed at a challenge.
• Believing I can develop ability with effort.
• Believing that the work has value and connects in some way to my interests and aspirations.

We will be cultivating these aspects of mindset throughout the year; therefore, our theme this year is: Mindset Matters - #Herewegrow.

We believe that we will continue to grow as a learning community centered around this theme. 

Looking forward to seeing our students soon and partnering with guardians in a great school year ahead.

¡El año escolar 2023-24 ya casi está aquí! Hemos estado planeando y preparándonos para el regreso de los estudiantes y estamos muy emocionados por los recuerdos que construiremos juntos este año. Primer Día y Miércoles Salida Temprana:

El primer día de clases para los estudiantes es el miércoles 6 de septiembre de 2023.

El gran cambio de este año es que ya no tenemos comienzos tardíos los miércoles. Si ha estado en el distrito, sabrá que hemos tenido un comienzo tardío de dos horas los miércoles durante muchos años. Trabajar como voluntario

Se permitirán voluntarios este año y no hay consideraciones relacionadas con Covid. Esto significa que no hay prueba de vacunación o requisitos de excepción como el año pasado. Para ser voluntario necesitarás:

• Una verificación de antecedentes actualizada renovada en los últimos dos años.
• Todo el papeleo voluntario presentado a la oficina a más tardar el viernes 27 de octubre. No podemos aprobar a nadie para ser voluntario después de esta fecha a menos que haya dificultades o mudanza. Esto nos ayuda a saber quién está en el grupo de voluntarios y evitar solicitudes de última hora que no podamos atender.

Esta es una gran oportunidad para que usted y su hijo vengan y se reúnan con su maestro, el personal y visiten la escuela. Este año los edificios están abiertos y podrá visitar al maestro en su salón de clases. Los socios comunitarios y las oportunidades divertidas estarán afuera. Con respecto a los útiles escolares, solicitamos que los estudiantes los traigan el primer día de clases. Tendremos helados y tendran la oportunidad de conocer a  los principales en la cafetería. Esperamos conocerte. 

Línea para recoger/dejar

Si las familias y los estudiantes están usando la línea para recoger/dejar, ingrese al estacionamiento de la escuela intermedia, siga las señales y las instrucciones del personal para ayudar al flujo de tráfico.

Pedimos que:

• Los autos avanzen todo el camino hacia los letreros cerca de la cafetería de la HS.
• No rebase a los autos para ponerse al frente, más bien avance cuando lo haga el auto que está frente a usted.
• Los estudiantes deben ingresar a los autos por el lado derecho del vehículo, cerca de la acera solamente.
• Los padres no deben salir del automóvil a menos que haya una necesidad que se haya discutido con la administración con anticipación. Si desea conocer a su estudiante, estacione en el estacionamiento y camine por la acera para saludar a su estudiante.
• Solo use los espacios para discapacitados si tiene permiso y muestre el permiso en todo momento.
• Tratarnos unos a otros y al personal con respeto y amabilidad en todo momento.

Consejo del sitio:

Se requiere que las escuelas tengan un consejo de sitio. Este es un grupo de maestros, padres y administradores que trabajan juntos para desarrollar, revisar y evaluar los planes de mejoramiento escolar. Si está interesado en esto, por favor póngase en contacto conmigo. Necesitamos mucho un par de padres dispuestos a estar en el consejo. Las reuniones del consejo son una vez al mes de 4 a 5 pm con un día por determinar.

Manual del estudiante/familia:

Tómese unos minutos para leer el Manual del estudiante/familia. Tenemos copias disponibles en la oficina principal a pedido o puede visitar el sitio web de la escuela intermedia en https://www.nmarion.k12.or.us/intermediate-school. Haga clic en Padres y estudiantes de IS.

Tema de la escuela:

Hay tanta investigación sobre tener una buena mentalidad. Una buena mentalidad se puede definir como:

• Creer que pertenezco a una comunidad y los demás también.
• Creer que puedo tener éxito en un desafío.
• Creer que puedo desarrollar habilidad con esfuerzo.
• Creer que el trabajo tiene valor y se conecta de alguna manera con mis intereses y aspiraciones.

Cultivaremos estos aspectos de la mentalidad durante todo el año; por lo tanto, nuestro tema de este año es: La mentalidad importa-#Aquicreceremos

Creemos que continuaremos creciendo como una comunidad de aprendizaje centrada en este tema.

Esperamos ver a nuestros estudiantes pronto y asociarnos con los tutores en un gran año escolar por delante.
