In our District, we believe in celebrating not just achievements, but also the values and actions that make our community special. During February, we've had the privilege of witnessing a plethora of remarkable events that highlight the essence of learning, kindness, and community spirit that is core to North Marion’s values.
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) Reading Competition was a thrilling event where our students showcased their literary prowess. Teams of enthusiastic readers from both the Intermediate School and Middle School engaged in friendly battles of knowledge, delving into a diverse range of books and demonstrating their deep understanding of literature. The competition not only fostered a love for reading but also encouraged teamwork and critical thinking skills among our students.
Literacy Day was a vibrant celebration across our elementary schools, where the joy of reading was palpable in every corner. Students engaged in interactive storytelling sessions with community members and staff, reading-themed crafts, and book-sharing activities, igniting their imaginations and nurturing their literacy skills. It was inspiring to witness our youngest learners embrace the magic of words and embark on exciting literary adventures. It was also amazing to see the outpouring of support from our community members, student groups, and staff!
The recent visits by our middle school students to the high school provided a valuable opportunity for them to explore what lies ahead in their academic journey. Guided tours, interactive sessions, and opportunities to ask questions allowed our middle schoolers to envision their future paths and gain insights into the vibrant learning community awaiting them. These visits not only bridged the gap between different grade levels but also inspired our students to aspire for excellence in their educational pursuits.
Kindness Week was a heartwarming celebration dedicated to spreading positivity and compassion throughout our school community. From small acts of kindness to heartfelt gestures, students and staff came together to uplift one another and create a culture of empathy and inclusion. Whether it was writing encouraging notes, organizing community service projects, or simply sharing smiles, Kindness Week reminded us of the profound impact of even the simplest acts of kindness.
The recent flag presentations by the American Legion served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans and the values they uphold. Through solemn ceremonies and meaningful reflections, our students had the opportunity to honor and express gratitude to those who have served our country with courage and dedication. These presentations deepened our understanding of patriotism and instilled a sense of reverence for the ideals symbolized by the flag. In addition, we want to thank the High School’s CTE programs who provided bases for the flags, and attended the special ceremony along side our Amercan Legion community members.
The Middle School Community Forum served as an invaluable platform for parents to gain insight into our English Language Arts (ELA) program, fostering a deeper understanding of our curriculum, teaching methodologies, and learning outcomes. Through engaging presentations, interactive discussions, and informative sessions, parents had the opportunity to explore the various components of our ELA program and its alignment with educational standards and student needs. The forum provided a collaborative space for parents to ask questions, share feedback, and actively participate in shaping the educational experience of their children, reaffirming our commitment to transparency, partnership, and continuous improvement in delivering high-quality ELA instruction.
The State Robotics Competition was a culmination of months of hard work, dedication, and innovation as our robotics teams showcased their engineering aptitude on a statewide platform. From designing and programming robots to tackling complex challenges, our students demonstrated exceptional creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork throughout the competition.
For our students, the competition was not just about winning accolades but also about pushing the boundaries of their capabilities, learning from setbacks, and embracing the value of perseverance and resilience. Whether they stood on the podium or faced challenges along the way, every participant emerged stronger, more determined, and inspired to continue their journey of exploration and discovery in the field of robotics.
