Office of the Superintendent

Dr. Bill Rhoades

Greetings and Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!

I want to begin by taking a moment to thank you for all you do to support children in North Marion and importantly, for trusting me with the opportunity to serve as your superintendent of schools. As many of you know, I have strong ties to the North Marion community and it is an honor for me to have this chance to work and learn together with you to provide excellence in school experiences for our students. Over the next two years, I look forward to working with you to build on the purposeful work and the wonderful possibilities that exist in North Marion as we engage and unify in support of our children and our schools.

While I graduated from that “rival” district down the road (Woodburn), we often joined our friends from North Marion while working in the fields, on the farms, and in the canneries. We played legion baseball, city league softball, and tennis together in the summer and hung out at all our local fairs and festivals. We studied together in college and supported each other's career paths, and now we intersect in many ways as our paths cross through our adult careers and adventures.

I have a passion for teaching and learning and enjoyed studying at Western Oregon, The University of Oregon, and Portland State University. I’ve had the great honor of being part of the educational leadership faculty at The University of Oregon, Portland State University, and Lewis and Clark College where I met many of the outstanding school leaders serving Oregon.

I am now proud to begin my 45th year of education after serving K-12 schools throughout the state as a teacher, coach, athletic administrator, assistant principal, principal, director of curriculum, school improvement, and strategic planning, chief academic officer, as Assistant Superintendent in Hillsboro and Bend-La Pine, and as Superintendent in the West Linn-Wilsonville, Woodburn, Yamhill-Carlton, and now the North Marion School District.

Outside of school, I stay busy playing sports, watching sports, taking classes, enjoying music and theater, studying Oregon wildlife, and trying to keep up with my college-age kids attending school in Corvallis and Los Angeles.

Thank you again for being a community that works together for children and their schools. Thanks to you, we have had a fantastic start to the year and we are inspired by the possibilities that lie ahead.

I look forward to seeing you at school.

With Spirit,

Bill Rhoades, Ed.
