Update March 26, 2020 Bond Construction Project Continues

Construction and manufacturing were specifically exempted under Governor’s Executive Order 20-12 so long as an employer “ensures that employees are maintaining social distancing measures.”  The district’s bond project manager is ensuring that our contractor is in compliance with this requirement and the High School project will continue as planned until further direction prohibiting it is given or social distancing measures become unattainable.

This is an update about the statewide school closure information we received from the Governor today at 4:45 pm.  The school closure is extended through April 28th. At this time, students are scheduled to return to school on April 29th.  Over the next few days, district staff will review the Governor’s new guidance for required school operations and create a plan to support student learning and academic growth. We will communicate the plan by the end of this week.

With the number of confirmed COVID-19 coronavirus cases in Oregon increasing, Governor Brown announced new guidance regarding group gatherings and social distancing. We remain committed to keeping our schools open and safe. In accordance with the guidance and in order to minimize potential opportunities for the virus to spread, we have decided to proactively begin suspending events that bring large groups of students, adults, and community members together. This action is not related to a presumptive case. At this time, there are no presumptive cases in North Marion Schools.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and Marion County Health Department (MCHD) are monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).  Even though Oregon cases have increased, we are following guidance from our state educational agency and public health federal and state agencies.  They recommend people in Oregon take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of many respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 and Influenza.
