Site supervisor Kylee Surgeon is seeking students to join the After-School Club at North Marion Middle School.

The North Marion Middle School’s new After-School Club (ASC) will officially kick off on Monday, February 28 — but registration has already begun!

The ASC includes transportation and a meal, as well as a healthy serving of activities including homework help, physical exercise, art projects, cooking opportunities, as well as technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) tasks. The ASC will run from 2:45 to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday (not Friday) in the portable behind the Middle School. Participation will cost $28 a month.

Site supervisor Kylee Surgeon says she plans to accept up to 30 students to the program, which existed before schools went to remote learning and is beginning anew.

“It’s great for building new friendships and learning new ways to create and think,” Surgeon explains.

Middle School Principal David Sheldon says that the students don’t have a program like this, and it will help keep young minds occupied. Sheldon’s fellow leader, Middle School Principal  Tami Badinger, says she is thrilled with the progress of the club.

“We are very proud of the pre-work that Kylee has accomplished to get the program up and running!” Middle School Principal Tami Badinger says.

Surgeon says that the ASC is managed through the Woodburn School District, which was able to expand the program to the North Marion Middle School because of a grant.
