Responding to the Texas Tragedy

Dear North Marion Community,

Today, the world is dealing with another horrific tragedy, an elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, resulting in the deaths of 18 students and two adults. Our hearts go out to the victims’ families and school community during this time. This event occurs on the heels of other devastating shooting-related tragedies in recent weeks.  

When these events occur, it impacts all of us. Together, we grieve and respond to the loss of precious life. We also know that these types of violent tragedies can cause people to wonder about their own safety or the safety within their community locations and schools.  

Please know that the physical safety of our students in the North Marion School District remains our absolute top priority. Our entire district regularly practices safety in the form of Standard Response Protocol drills and safety routines. Thanks to voters, we were able to invest bond funds into upgrading the security of our school buildings. Our Administration, including our Security Director, is actively identifying and implementing ways in which we can create both safe and welcoming schools for our students. Families can learn more about safety and security in our school district by visiting the district website. 

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school counselor or principal  if you would like any resources or support in talking about any of these recent events, or talking about grief and loss as a family.

Estimada Comunidad Escolar de North Marion,

Hoy, el mundo está lidiando con otra terrible tragedia, un tiroteo en una escuela primaria en Uvalde, Texas, que resultó en la muerte de 18 estudiantes y dos adultos.

Nuestros corazones están con las familias de las víctimas y la comunidad escolar durante este momento. Este evento ocurre a los pies de otra tragedia devastadora, relacionada con una balacera, en recientes semanas. 

Cuando estos eventos ocurren, nos impacta a todos. Juntos,  lamentamos y respondemos a la pérdida de vidas preciosas. También sabemos que estos tipos de tragedias violentas, pueden causar que la gente se pregunte acerca de su propia seguridad, o la seguridad dentro de las locaciones de la comunidad y escuelas. 

Por favor sepa, que la seguridad física de nuestros estudiantes en el Distrito Escolar North Marion, permanece nuestra absoluta máxima prioridad. Nuestro distrito por completo, practica regularmente en la forma de ejercicios los Protocolos de Respuestas Estándares y rutinas de seguridad. Gracias a los votantes, pudimos invertir fondos de bonos para mejorar la seguridad de nuestros edificios escolares. Nuestra Administración, incluido nuestro Director de Seguridad, está activamente identificando e implementando, maneras en las cuales podemos crear escuelas seguras y cordiales para nuestros estudiantes.
