School Board Special District Elections this May 16, 2023

North Marion School District announces four of the seven seats on the School District Board of Directors will be up for candidate election or re-election on May 16, 2023

Positions 2, 5, & 7 are 4-year terms ending June 30, 2027

*Position 6 is to complete the remaining 2-years of an appointed unexpired 4-year term ending June 30, 2025

Directors are elected by registered voters in NMSD to at-large positions.

Interested patrons must be willing to participate in monthly meetings (twice a month), workshops, board training, professional development sessions, budgeting and school district strategic planning sessions. School Board members, as a group, not individually represent all students, staff and citizens. For more information on being a board member select links below.

Board members seeking re-election and those who are newly interested candidates must file declaration of candidacy with the Marion County Clerk’s Office no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 to be included on the May 16, 2023 District Elections Ballot. IMPORTANT DATES:

Candidate Filing Opens:  February 4, 2023

Candidate Filing Closes:  March 16, 2023 to the Marion County Clerk’s Office, 5:00 p.m.

Candidate Statement (optional) for Voter’s Pamphlet Deadline: March 20, 2023, 5:00 p.m.

Two Ways to File (choose one): 

  1. SUBMIT a petition (SEL 121 Candidate Signature Sheet) containing the signatures of 25 registered voters, or 10% of the registered voters, whichever is less.
  2. SUBMIT a declaration of candidacy (SEL 190 Candidate Filing Form) with a $10 filing fee. 
  • Optional: A Candidate Statement Instructions and Voter Pamphlet Form: Participation in the Marion County Voter Pamphlet is entirely up to the candidate. Only information submitted and paid for by candidates or committees will be published in the elections manual.
  • Get on Board Campaign & Fact Sheet:  The Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) established the Get on Board Campaign in 2017 to encourage sitting board members to offer their expertise for another term, and urge motivated community members to accept the challenge of board work. The Board of Directors will accept the results of the May 16, 2023 election at its June 12th annual procedural school board meeting. All members elected will begin duties July 1, 2023.
