Staff Appreciation Spotlight: Marie Jones

Marie Jones

In honor of Staff Appreciation Week, we're going to be showing our appreciation of staff with features all week!

Middle School Library Media/Tech Specialist Marie Jones is in awe of her student aides: eighth-graders Guadalupe Herrera Leon, Paola Hernandez Roque, and Aurora Timmons. Jones, being the warm-hearted person she is, wanted to take a moment to thank them for all that they do. Many of the things that she's thanking them for, we'd sure like to thank her for too, including all of the great work she does daily!

Jones said that aides work at the main desk when students need to check out books and technology. They also help library visitors find the books that they need. Behind the scenes, the students tally inventory and process books for cataloging, shelving, and repairs. They offer support for The Giving Tree Project (collecting gifts for the holidays during the wintertime) and two Book Fairs per year (fundraisers for the school). The students even decorate, with Timmons recently refreshing one wall with a display of lively spring flowers! Jones said that her aides are, simply, critical to keeping things humming.

“They are integral to a well-run library,” Jones explained. “We share ideas and work together to make the library even better. Our aides learn useful job skills, become wonderful role models, gain knowledge of library science, and develop good work ethics and skills that will benefit them in the future. Over the years, many of my students have come to me and asked for a job reference. I gladly write them.”

We're turning it around on you and writing you a small note of appreciation! You work so hard and are an incredible role model to these students! Thank you for everything that you do!
