Superintendent's Update - October 17, 2024

Students working on computers

Dear North Marion Parents & Guardians,

A lot of great learning has been taking place in our schools this fall. You have a great opportunity to hear directly from our teachers next week at parent-teacher conferences. Our principals are reporting that many of you have already signed up. This is great to hear, as our teachers need your insight on how best to serve your students. It is also a great opportunity for you to learn how you can support your child at home. If you have not signed up for conferences, it is not too late. Please contact your child’s school if you need more information.

Speaking of getting your input, you are going to be hearing a lot about the upcoming Youth Truth Survey from us in the next several weeks. Youth Truth is an anonymous survey that many districts in our area use to get feedback from parents, staff, and students. At the September 30th School Board meeting, I shared with the board why Youth Truth is one of the best ways to learn how we can improve as a school district. With our School Board adopting a new Strategic Plan this spring, your input is incredibly important. In the coming weeks, you will be receiving a video message from me about Youth Truth. I will also be sharing the questions that will be asked, the future plans to use the information, and when you can anticipate hearing what parents have to say about the North Marion School District. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about this survey.

Speaking of our School Board – at the October 14th board meeting, we presented to the school board our “Division 22 Annual Report”. Division 22 refers to all of the legal obligations school districts must follow. Every fall, school districts in Oregon must report to their school board whether they are in compliance with all Division 22 standards. I am proud to say that the North Marion School District met all of the requirements. If you would like more information about Division 22 and all of the legal requirements, please take a look at our special Division 22 webpage.

I will close this message where I started. We hope you attend parent-teacher conferences. You send us awesome students to school each and every day, and I know our teachers would love to share the positive contributions your child makes to our schools, how they are progressing academically, and areas where they could improve. Thank you for trusting us with them.
