Month of January 2022 The School District Academic Calendar Has Changed

The North Marion School Board on Monday approved a request to adjust the Academic Calendar to change an instructional day to a Professional Development Day focusing on curriculum (January 3, 2022). 

“Teachers and IAs and everyone are working super, super hard,” K–5 Literacy Coach Page Gianella said at the Monday School Board meeting. “There is just not enough time to do what they need to do, so thank you to the administrators for recognizing that.”

One of the latest additions to the North Marion Board of Directors is a former U.S Air Force Major with a PhD and seven scientific publications to her name. But the community mostly knows her as Kristie Buckland, a married mom of a 10th-grader and a fifth-grader, who began her term on the School Board on Dec. 14, 2020.

COVID cells Update on North Marion COVID-19 Cases

With so much going on, we want to make sure that we touch base and keep you informed about current COVID-19 cases in the North Marion community.

Last week, there were four diagnosed cases of COVID-19: two at the High School, one at the Middle School, and one at the Intermediate School.

Bus Route 13 will be discontinued on Monday, October 18, and its stops will be redistributed to other buses.

Bus Route 8 has also been discontinued, effective Oct. 4, and its stops have already been split between 9 and 10.

A microscopic view of the COVID-19 virus Three New COVID-19 Cases in the North Marion School District

The North Marion School District currently has three new COVID-19 cases: a diagnosed case at the High School, a diagnosed case at the Middle School, and a presumptive case at the Primary School. Parents whose children were exposed and need to quarantine have already been directly notified. 

The School District Nurse has been in contact with the Marion County Health and Human Services Department to protect the health of our community. The North Marion School District is either in the process of contact tracing or has completed it for each case.

A flyer that details the vaccination clinic Weekly Vax Clinic Kicks Off This Week in Woodburn!

Need to get vaccinated? Starting this week, there will be a free vaccine clinic two days a week in Woodburn!

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Thursday and Friday starting Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 at Chemeketa Community College, 120 E. Lincoln St., Room 107, Woodburn.

Everyone is welcome to come to the vaccine clinic, regardless of immigration status. Neither an ID nor a pre-registration is required to attend. Walk-in attendees will be welcome.

The vaccine, as always, will be free to receive. In addition, free, rapid COVID-19 tests will be available.

Three Middle School students (Leslie Aguilar Martinez, Leslie Aguilar Martinez, Daneika Hobin, and Emily "Emma" Rodriguez Rojas, North Marion's Welcome Back Story

The entire North Marion School District returned to in-person classes on Sept. 8. Well, almost all of it. Kindergartners will start at the Primary School next week.

This week — on the first day for most students — Middle School Principal David Sheldon called the day "a terrific success."

"Kids were in the building," Sheldon said. "Teachers were out in droves helping guide our students. Lots of evidence of care and connection were visible."

Students were thrilled to be on-site rather than learning remotely.
