North Marion High School’s robotics teams aren’t just about racking up the trophy hardware at tournaments.

These students share a love for robo know-how, under the guidance of adviser Sherie Moran, and her teams participate in robotics to gain career skills in coding and building, while enjoying a community of fellow tech enthusiasts. 

“It’s awesome to be around people who have creative ideas that can benefit humanity,” High School senior Raymond Magana says.

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) has released new guidance. Effective Friday, January 14, Oregon will no longer consider indoor masked contact in K–12 settings, including school buses, to be an exposure, regardless of social distancing.

The North Marion School District has invited a local group with a mobile van to hold a COVID-19 Booster Clinic at the Middle School.

The event, held by GetAFluShot.com (but this is a COVID-19 Booster Clinic) will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, January 21 in the front parking lot of the North Marion Middle School, 20246 Grim Road NE, Aurora. Here are answers to the questions that we have been getting:

The rapid rise in COVID-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant has contributed to a fast rise in absences of students and staff at North Marion Middle School. The ability to fully staff and safely operate our schools is a key factor that has resulted in the difficult decision to transition North Marion Middle School to short-term distance learning.

North Marion Middle School’s one counselor was supporting 400 teenagers in the midst of “these trying times” for several months. But no more! Despite a national labor shortage, the school’s co-principals were able to recruit a second Middle School Counselor, Kira Luscher, who came on board in December.

North Marion School District logo Part 2: ‘All My Teachers Know Me,’ a Visit to a High School Classroom

When Petula Clark belted out the “Downtown” soul hit of the 1960s, she could never have known that “Calculus: The Musical!” would set math lessons to the earworm ditty. (the mathematical lyrics include “derivatives of constants are always a slope of zero.”) But earlier this month, North Marion High School seniors were whispering or subtly mouthing the 2013 numbers-centric version in Math Teacher Remy Strapp’s Calculus Class. Strapp says that returning to in-person learning makes it easier to reach students through teacher or peer support and to offer more dynamic lessons, such as those that use singing or movement, or even a Jeopardy!-style math competition.
