Although he’s the newest addition to the North Marion School Board, Bill Graupp is a seasoned Director.

National Principals Month seems like an annual fixture in October, but it’s actually a fairly new celebration. Launched in 2009, the tradition is one that already feels embedded in the North Marion School District culture as staff quietly honor our local heroes each fall. This year, we sat down with our building leaders to find out what it’s like to be a principal. Here's what they had to say ...

Middle School Principal David Sheldon made the most of a vibrant, egg yolk-hued sunrise, capturing photos of hot air balloons on his commute and images of his students' arrival at school through an early morning mist on Oct. 19. Another beautiful day in Aurora!

School District staff members have worked hard to handle COVID-19-related medical tasks, communication, and paperwork, but we would like some more support! Want to help us out?

Bus Route 13 will be discontinued on Monday, October 18, and its stops will be redistributed to other buses.

Bus Route 8 has also been discontinued, effective Oct. 4, and its stops have already been split between 9 and 10.

Bill Rhoades, North Marion High School’s new CoPrincipal of Teaching and Learning, has a piece of advice to offer amid the COVID-19 pandemic: “There has never been a time when it has been more critical to move forward together and to build belief in ourselves and what we can do.”

Need to get vaccinated? Starting this week, there will be a free vaccine clinic two days a week in Woodburn!

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Thursday and Friday starting Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 at Chemeketa Community College, 120 E. Lincoln St., Room 107, Woodburn.

Everyone is welcome to come to the vaccine clinic, regardless of immigration status. Neither an ID nor a pre-registration is required to attend. Walk-in attendees will be welcome.

The vaccine, as always, will be free to receive. In addition, free, rapid COVID-19 tests will be available.

The entire North Marion School District returned to in-person classes on Sept. 8. Well, almost all of it. Kindergartners will start at the Primary School next week.

This week — on the first day for most students — Middle School Principal David Sheldon called the day "a terrific success."

"Kids were in the building," Sheldon said. "Teachers were out in droves helping guide our students. Lots of evidence of care and connection were visible."

Students were thrilled to be on-site rather than learning remotely.
